Lake 3 BWCA
From August 12-15, 2010, Lail and I canoed from Lake 1 through Lake 2 to the Southeast corner of Lake 3 in the BWCA. We spent the previous night at Fall Lake Campground which was very nice. Lake 1 is the second most popular entry in the Boundary Waters so the short portages between Lake 1 and Lake 1 were very busy with families and various groups. The highlight of this trip photographically was experimenting with high ISO low light shots in the evenings.

This is the westward view on the first night. It was shot at an ISO 3200 with a Nikon D700 camera.

Sleeping 3 nights iin the BWCA reconnects you with weather. They sky changed constantly and we had a great deal of wind. Our campsite was number 8 which you can determine by looking at your National Forest Service au natural latrine. It was near the Powwow trail that allowed us to go to a nearby Horseshoe Lake by foot or by portage.

The following day I hiked from Lake 3 down the Powwow Trail.

View of Driftwood along Powwow Trail Lake 3 before hike to Rock of Ages Lake farther down the trail.

Final destination for stroll-Rock of Ages Lake-beautiful and quiet.

That evening presented another chance to shoot the western sky over Lake 3.

What a different mood than the night before. What a great blessing it is to be able to canoe and camp in perhaps the best canoe country in the world.
